How video helped Thomas Paine Sixth Form increase Year 12 enrolment and showcase student life

Thomas Paine Sixth Form approached Firepit Media to create a promotional video aimed at increasing applications for Year 12 places.
Although the sixth form offered excellent facilities, strong student support, enrichment opportunities, and a welcoming atmosphere, student numbers were below target. The goal was to better communicate what the sixth form could offer to prospective students and parents.
The video would be used online, across social media, and during open evenings and recruitment events.
The focus of the project was authenticity.
Rather than relying heavily on scripted messaging or staff-led interviews, we chose to feature only students speaking throughout the film. This allowed the video to feel far more genuine and relatable to prospective applicants.
Hearing directly from current students gave audiences a real insight into sixth form life, including:
Alongside the interviews, we captured cinematic footage of lessons, social spaces, enrichment activities, and everyday sixth form life to create a film that felt both professional and natural.
The aim was to help prospective students picture themselves there.
The promotional video became a key part of the sixth form’s recruitment strategy and was used across multiple platforms and events.
Following the campaign, the number of students starting in Year 12 doubled compared to previous years.
The success of the project also led to additional video commissions from the sixth form itself, as well as further work from the connected school.
For schools and sixth forms, video is one of the most effective ways to communicate atmosphere, culture, and student experience.
Prospective students want to see what life is really like — not just read about it.
By focusing on authentic student voices and real experiences, educational videos can build trust, improve engagement, and help institutions connect more effectively with future students and parents.
This project with Thomas Paine Sixth Form showed how powerful authentic storytelling can be when combined with professional video production.
By focusing on real students and genuine experiences, the video helped the sixth form communicate its strengths clearly — and delivered measurable results through increased enrolment.
